PIONEERING charity that “creates opportunities to Discover, Explore and Perform” has struck the right note after becoming the latest organisation to move to Westlakes Science Park.

At BEC, we do what we can to support our local communities and are thrilled to announce we are helping local charity Soundwave with a temporary base at Westlakes Science Park from December following their departure from the Theatre Royal which they’ve called home for 8 years. Soundwave are excited to start a new venture in Copeland and look forward to developing a long-term partnership with BEC.

Soundwave is a not-for-profit organisation whose mission is ‘creating opportunities to Discover, Explore, Perform’. They do this by providing an inclusive space for young musicians and other creatives within the county to connect and collaborate.

With vast experience in facilitating musical youth groups – from bands to song writing workshops – Soundwave will bring something different to Westlakes. Soundwave will be running team building exercises, recording sessions and music making sessions from Wastwater Pavilion and hope to establish Westlakes Science Park’s very own choir.

Discussing the charity’s new chapter at Westlakes Science Park, Soundwave Project Coordinator Emma Dockeray says, “This is such an exciting chapter for Soundwave. The team and our participants are really excited to take this next step and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for the arts in Copeland.“

BEC Head of Investments, Bill Graham says “We’re always looking for different ways to engage with and support our community, with the Goodlives Community Garden at Westlakes we’ve shown that supporting social impact projects brings lasting value giving local businesses and people the chance to get involved and support initiatives that really make a difference.  The work Soundwave do to support young people through music is amazing and we’re proud to be able to support them while they find a new, permanent home in the local area”.

Do you have a passion for music and enjoy working with young people? Soundwave are always looking for volunteers to help facilitate the sessions and help deliver the programme. To get involved, contact them at
