Former Whittles building acquired for redevelopment

We have acquired the former Whittles building on the intersection of Duke Street and Tangier Street in Whitehaven for redevelopment.

The building requires major renovation having fallen into disrepair over recent years.  We have exciting plans to transform the building into a hub aimed at our young people, focussed on future skills development.  A safe space for young people to socialise, pursue their interests and gain relevant skills.  Our aspiration is to raise aspirations around digital careers and give young people the an insight into the wider career opportunities open to them.

Our Chief Executive, Michael Pemberton said ‘We’re taking another step forward with our plans to redevelop the former Whittles building as a hub to support the aspirations of our young people, creating new opportunities for employment and skills development in Cumbria.  We’re providing an enabling platform for younger people to develop future skills in a fun, vibrant and supportive environment.  We want to bring new sectors to Cumbria giving people the opportunity to explore different career paths.  The concept links to our recent redevelopment of the Bus Station, we envision young people perfecting their thoughts and skills here and then getting support from Eagle Labs Cumbria to further develop and sell their ideas, creating a new generation of digital entrepreneurs.’

The projects aligns with our recent investment at the Bus Station, Bransty Row and our wider plans for regeneration in Whitehaven Town Centre.
