BEC offers up £25k to Cumbria Community Foundation’s #iwill fund
Giving:BEC contribution forms part of £100k pot for youth social action projects
16th July 2019: Profit-for-Purpose property firm BEC has donated £25k to the #iwill campaign run by Cumbria Community Foundation (CCF), taking the total funds for Cumbria to £100k.
The national #iwill campaign aims to make participation in social action – such as volunteering, fundraising, mentoring and campaigning – the norm for young people aged 10 to 20 (or 25 for those with disabilities). CCF is administering the fund Cumbria wide and BEC’s contribution will specifically support youth projects in Allerdale and Copeland.
Over the last two years, the #iwill Fund has awarded almost £180,000 and supported 40 projects in Cumbria, including Give a Day to the City in Carlisle, Cumbria Deaf Association, Drop Zone Youth Projects in Barrow, Eden Rivers Trust, South Lakeland Carers and The Colourful North in West Cumbria. BEC’’s contribution – which is match funded by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport and The National Lottery Community Fund – has enabled the fund to enter into a third year.
Adam Phillips BEC’s Community and Engagement Officer said: “The kind of grass roots activism and community support encouraged as part of #iwill really impressed us. The ripple effect of positive impact and influence it enables across communities really chimes with our own Giving:BEC social impact aspirations.”
BEC CEO Michael Pemberton added: “We want to see every member of society have the opportunity to make a lasting impact and leave their own legacy, and we can clearly see how the #iwill campaign helps this to happen – especially in some of the harder to reach parts of our society here on the West coast of Cumbria.”

We want to fund enjoyable projects that build and share skills and demonstrate positive impact on the wider community including simple, basic things like making new friends, trying out new activities and improving life skills. We’re proud to support local groups working with the next generation of volunteers, campaigners and activists who want to make a difference.”
