Acquired in early 2016, the plot at North Shore Road is circa 0.6ha and comprises a broadly elliptical shaped area of open land located between the Whitehaven Tesco store and Whitehaven Boatyard. Before we acquired the site it was used for informal and ad hoc car parking. The site is bounded to the eastern side by North Shore Road running between its junctions with the A5094 New Road, continuing north to the XXX site. The Tesco store is located on the eastern side of New Shore Road, with an access junction located south east of the site. To the western side is the Whitehaven Boatyard which is accessible via an unnamed road running along the sites northern and then western boundary, with the Whitehaven Marina located on the south western side.
Vehicular access to the land is gained via North Shore Road from its junction with Bransty Row. The junction was improved in 2021 as part of the infrastructure improvements to Bransty Row undertaken by Cumbria County Council with funding from the National Productivity Infrastructure Fund and match funding from BEC.
The site lies directly adjacent the northern edge of Whitehaven Town Centre therefore access on foot to places of work, recreation, shops and other amenities is a matter of only a few minutes’ walk. For those seeking onward connections via public transport, the town’s railway station is located just 100m to the west.
