What have we got going on?

Project Progress

The Digital and Gaming Hub is making good progress and I’m really pleased about what’s going on there.

We should hopefully be announcing the contractor within the next three weeks, so watch out for that update because we’ve got some great news on the horizon about who we’ve appointed to deliver this project. As well as announcing the main contractor we are excited to be unveiling the chosen name for the development very soon too.

Alongside this, many of you may be aware that we have been trying to get planning permission to do something more with Blencathra Business Centre for many years.

I am pleased to report that Bill and the team have pulled it out of the bag and have secured planning which, under normal circumstances, is hard but when you then couple that with the National Park, it’s even harder.

So yes, we have planning consent to extend Blencathra Business Centre and we’re now working through the financial side of things to be able to bring the development forward.

Blencathra is 100% occupied all of the time, so we have a waiting list of people who would love to locate their small businesses in the Business Centre.

ISO Certification for BEC

You may have already seen in the press (or on our own blog), that BEC has been awarded three ISO certifications. Boom! Three!

Getting ISO certification is absolutely superb and it’s easy for me to sit where I sit and say, I want us to have ISO certification, that’s the easy bit.

The hard bit is actually getting ISO certification, and that would not have been possible without the Herculean efforts of the team, led by Sam, Paula, Angie and Gemma. In fact, all the whole team, every single person, had a role to play in BEC being able to secure three ISO certifications (not just one!), and I’m absolutely over the moon.

What it does do is demonstrate the desire of our organisation to continually improve and to look for ways that we can make BEC even better and even fitter for the challenges that lie ahead. This is bearing in mind that we have a strategy that sees us have the ambition to be net-zero by 2030.

Stars of Tomorrow Ball

Our Community Impact Manager, Emma is hosting a charity ball for cared-for and care-experienced young people from around the local area.

The event is called the ”Stars of Tomorrow Ball” and will be held on September 6th at Energus in Workington and we are delighted to be supporting Emma, as many people are, for this great cause.
