25th June 2019: Our Westlakes STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Arts & Maths) hosted a fun visit for 11 Belarusian children last week, organised by Friends Of Chernobyl’s Children.
They learned all about STEAM subjects and the weather was perfect for them.
The Westlakes STEAM trail blends outdoor education with digital learning. The curriculum focused destination for local schools at Key Stage 2 and 3 level features knowledge boards on topics ranging from photography to solar energy, together with a dedicated app to encourage learning via digital platforms.
Friends of Chernobyl’s Children works to relieve the suffering of children from the resounding after-effects of the 1986 nuclear disaster, which are still devastating families across poverty-stricken Belarus. We fund yearly visits to the UK for children from the most desperate circumstances in the contaminated area of Belarus. For a month each year they receive recuperative healthcare, English lessons and, most importantly, lots of loving tender care from their UK host families.
