Covid 19 Statement from BEC CEO

Like every business at the moment BEC has and is being significantly impacted by the current global pandemic. Our thoughts are with our team and their families and loved ones, our tenants, customers and our local communities

We are of course following the constantly updated advice from the UK government and taking all necessary actions and precautions to minimise the spread of the virus.

What we are doing

Myself and the Senior Leadership Team are determined that the whole BEC team continue to feel like a team – this is a time when we really do need to stand shoulder to shoulder ‘virtually’. We have three top priorities in these challenging times – our people, our business and our communities. This is where the focus of our actions has been since the pandemic took hold and this will continue until we have together come through this current challenge.

Meeting, events and hospitality

Located approximately 8 miles North of Sellafield Ltd, Westlakes Science Park is easily accessible from the A595 near Whitehaven.  Set amongst the rolling fells of West Cumbria, Westlakes Science Park boasts beautiful views of the surrounding countryside, with free parking, on-site hospitality and our friendly, professional team on hand to meet all your business needs.
Our modern meeting and events spaces are designed to meet all your needs, with the flexibility to cater for a range of layouts, capacity for 4 to 128 delegates and access to communal break out areas in our beautiful grounds, we can provide everything you need to host your meeting or event.

Our spaces are available to book :-
All day 09:00 to 17:00
Half day 09:00 to 12:30 or 13:30 to 17:00
Hourly between 09:00 and 12:30 and 13:30 to 17:00.

Our meeting and events spaces are available in a range of layouts and include:-

Covid-19 Update
We have taken steps to safely re-open our facilities at Westlakes Science Park.

Our on-site cafe Eat @ the Park is now open from 9am to 3pm Monday to Friday to tenants and visitors for delivery and takeaway.  There is limited seating capacity to ensure visitors can observe social distancing.

Our meeting rooms are now available for hire.  Strategy can accommodate 8 attendees and Sustainability up to 30 attendees observing the 2m social distance.  Where this is not possible attendees will be required to observe 1m plus guidelines including the use of masks and suitable seating arrangements.

Attendees must check in verbally with a member of our team at reception and will be asked to provide their contact details, these will be held for 28 days in the event of an outbreak.

Hand washing and sanitisation facilities are available throughout our buildings.  All meeting rooms are equipped with wipes and attendees are asked to wipe in/wipe out and clean touch points as needed.  We have removed shared use items including mugs, pens and notepads to minimise transmission risks and are not currently offering hospitality within our meeting and events spaces.

Meeting and events spaces and equipment will be cleaned between uses which may impact availability.

We are monitoring arrangements constantly and welcome your feedback as we adapt to new ways of working.

Finding your way around the Park


We proudly serve Starbucks coffee and a range of Teavana teas in our meetings and events spaces.  All of our hospitality is freshly made daily in our on-site cafe, Eat @ the Park located in Bassenthwaite Pavilion to the rear of Ingwell Hall.

Eat @ the Park serves a full range of hot and cold grab and go options and your favourite Starbucks drinks to eat in or takeaway.

Don’t need a private space?

Come to Hive @ the Park in the Innovation Centre, with free Wi-Fi, self-serve Starbucks and stunning views of the fells it’s the perfect place to drop in for a few hours to get your head down or catch up with a colleague.

Just pop in, grab a seat and you’re good to go.

Strategy

Our largest space at 13m x 12m available in a range of layouts with capacity for up to 128 people. Located to the rear of Ingwell Hall, Strategy boasts an abundance of natural light via seven windows fitted with vertical blinds.  Equipped with large screen projection and micro-computer and with easy access to our beautiful grounds Strategy is perfect for training and networking events.

The beautiful surroundings at Westlakes are looked after by our dedicated Grounds Maintenance team.

The team is led by Steven Parry, who brings two decades of landscaping experience to his work, not to mention a first class BTEC national diploma in Horticulture. He is joined by David Bond and Chris Talahoma, two skilled grounds maintenance professionals.
