Natural Capital

Investing in our

natural assets

Whether we’re renovating a building, looking for projects in the community, or regenerating an entire town, we keep sustainable building and a low carbon agenda front of mind.

That’s our ‘Golden Thread’ and it runs through everything we do.

Acres of natural habitat maintained

Committed to a better future

What are we doing to improve biodiversity?

We’re committed to protecting the environment, enhancing habitats, and supporting wildlife, particularly around our assets.

At Westlakes Science Park, we plant trees, hedges, and wildflowers, manage invasive species, and care for 9 ponds and 265 acres of woodlands, grasslands, and trails. We also promote responsible green space use and support outdoor education for the community.

We work with partners

Collaboration is key in maximising our impact.

We are committed to embedding sustainability at the heart of our developments, and collaboration is central to that mission. By working with local charities, community organisations, and specialist partners, we are able to share knowledge, pool resources, and deliver projects that make a positive long-term impact. From using recycled materials and renewable energy in our builds, to designing spaces that are inclusive, accessible, and resilient, BEC collaborates to ensure sustainability is not just an add-on, but a core principle.

Together with our partners, we’re creating places that support people, the planet, and the local economy - now and for future generations.

Ways we’re becoming more sustainable

The strategic steps we’re

taking to improve biodiversity

Protect Natural Habitats

We have identified key habitats for red squirrels and badgers in particular, which we're protecting on the park.

Control Invasive Species

We proactively manage and remove harmful non-native species from our woodlands.

Educate & Involve Communities

We actively raise awareness about biodiversity's importance in our local community.
